Annual Memorial Illumination of the Antietam Battlefield

December 1- TRI-WARD ACTVITY- Alexandria 1st & 2nd and Crystal City Ward Singles and anyone else will carpool to Sharpsburg, Maryland to attend the 19th Annual Memorial Illumination of the Antietam Battlefield. There will be 23,110 candles placed on the battlefield, each candle honoring a soldier who was wounded or killed at the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862 - the bloodiest single-day-battle in American History. The illumination is a very impressive sight.

We will meet at the Alexandria Chapel (2810 King Street, Alexandria) at 5:45 PM. We will drive to Frederick Maryland and gather for dinner at a restaurant. After dinner we will continue our journey to the battlefield and join the line up on the shoulder of Route 34, Turn off your headlights, and slowly make your way onto the Battlefield.

The wait can be a couple of hours, so come prepared with hot cocoa and good conversation. We welcome everyone to join us regardless of which side of the Mason-Dixon line you were born on. ;)

Please RSVP to Mike Whalan by noon Tuesday, November 27 so we can notify the restaurant how many to expect. Watch for further details and directions.

If you have any questions, please contact Mike Whalan at 703-256-3247, mdwdive@aol.com or Melissa Hill at 571-212-4707, melissahill56@yahoo.com.
